Rev. Dr. Graham W. Hardy
1922-2008
Friends;

I share with you the sad news of the death of our friend and brother, Dr. Graham Hardy. Graham died on New Years Eve in his beloved Australia, having only a few days before returned there. His daughter, who lives in Sydney, was able to be with him before he died. He was 85 at the time of his death.

Graham was born in 1922 in Manchester, in the UK, and educated in Scotland, including receiving his B.D. from New College, Edinburgh, in 1945.He also earned an S.T.M. at Union Seminary in New York in 1947. He was ordained by the Church of Scotland in 1948, and served parishes in Alyth and Edinburgh before accepting a call to the St. Stephens Church in Sydney, Australia in 1967.  He served there for twenty years before coming to the US. He served interims in Kanawha and Charleston, WV and in Sanford, FL, before coming to our presbytery and serving as interim pastor at First Gainesville in 1989-91 and at Arlington in 1991-92.
He then accepted  interim assignments at the Eastminster Church in York, PA (1992-1994) and at First Church, Charleston WV (1995-1995), before returning to Florida to serve as interim pastor at Wekiva Church in Longwood (1995-1996). Graham returned to Gainesville, and was received again into our membership in 2001. Graham then served as both stated supply and interim pastor at Kanapaha and as stated supply at Reddick before his health finally forced him to leave that work in 2006.

Graham's gentle spirit, deeply thoughtful preaching, and pastoral skill were nearly legendary. He was a delight to share a conversation with, and always had a supportive word for others. He will be sorely missed.

Please join me in giving thanks to God for the life among us of this extraordinary servant of Christ.
